A tranquil horse-riding retreat, Zanzibar Horse Club was founded in 2018 and now features 40 horses across three well-maintained stables in Kidoti, Nungwi, and Kendwa villages. Guests can enjoy everything from gentle beach rides and hourly trail rides to sunset sessions and multi-hour adventures. The Club also operates a breeding ranch with large paddocks, a training arena, and miniature rescue ponies.
The location is ideal — close to beautiful beaches in Kendwa and Nungwi, plus the rustic charm of Kidoti. The Club is also socially conscious: they partner with a local animal sanctuary, donate a portion of profits, and prioritise horse welfare and sustainability.
The Zanzibar Horse Club offers a variety of unforgettable riding experiences designed for all levels of riders. Guests can enjoy a 30-minute swim with the horses, where the journey ends in the ocean as horse and rider wade into the turquoise waters for a refreshing dip. A popular choice is the one-hour village and beach ride, combining rustic village trails with a scenic stretch along the beach. For something more adventurous, the two-hour sandbanks ride takes you across shimmering tidal flats and coastal landscapes at low tide, while the Kilindi Bay early morning ride offers two hours of peaceful exploration along the calm shoreline in the soft morning light.
Those seeking longer adventures can opt for the three-hour beach and jungle ride, blending coastal paths with lush tropical trails, or the four-hour Great Northern Explorer, an in-depth journey through northern Zanzibar’s beaches, villages, and diverse terrain. Finally, the 90-minute jungle sunset ride creates a magical evening experience, with golden light filtering through the trees as the day comes to a close.
